Toby designs and makes a variety of objects ranging through boxes, seating and tables to large cabinets. He uses a range of Tasmanian timbers, colours and textures expressed through woodworking skills accumulated in over 40 years, to create these pieces.
Toby was introduced to woodturning by his father. Seeking to expand these skills he attended Parnham College established by John Makepeace in Dorset England. After managing Sturt wood in Mittagong he returned to Forest near the historic town of Stanley in North West Tasmania.Since then he has developed his skills through travelling fellowships, exhibitions, teaching and employing. His work is held in various collections including the Powerhouse in Sydney, T.M.A.G in Hobart and the Tasmanian Wood Design collection in Launceston.
Be it small boxes or a large dining table there are stories to be told, lifes experiences captured or milestones celebrated. Commissioning an object from Toby can be both personal and rewarding.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss your ideas or discuss the commissioning of a piece of furniture.
